Sao Paulo City

Sao Paulo, land of the drizzle, the 'chorinho', the cold draft and sparkling beer, the skyscrapers, our gastronomic wonders, our generous and joyfull people, all mixed in a multiracial mix, citizens of the world... The feijoada of Saturday until the samba round on Sunday... For all this and much more it is highly recommended and unforgettable. Sao Paulo, warm-hearted, beloved and lover, is meant to be lived with intensity, however, as a great metropolis, it has its ups and downs and vagaries. Like a sweet and educated girl that without notice drops to the floor and starts a tantrum "just because" whatever that could mean ... So there are a few details of the 'dark side' to be avoided ... For example: 1) Do not wear a jersey of the Corinthians (vice versa) and jump on a bus full of Sao Paulo FC fans on a game day. Futebol (soccer) here is a serious deal... 2) The expensive watches can be a sign of sophistication and good taste, as well as wealth! Look your best to avoid wearing your expensive "Rolex" while strolling through the city center as usual. 3) Sao Paulo is a megalopolis, so too is the traffic beyond any doubt. The worst time to exit the car is from 18.00 until 20.00hs. Public transportation at that time is also unreliable. The vast majority are crowded with people wanting to go home - all at the same time. The Paulistano are allergic to stay anywhere beyond 6 p.m. on anything that is not moved by gasoline, diesel or locomotive. The ideal is to get out sooner or later, alternating routes may be an option. You can walk anywhere faster than by car or public transportation depending on the distance. 4) Do not wait until 16.30 to go to the banks, because beyond being at risk of staying without attention, it could happen that the security guards watch is a “couple” of minutes ahead. And if by any chance there is any metal implants in your body, you better bring a copy certifying that it is so, if you want to go through the metal detector gate... Anyway, if you fall in line at the bank - a sadomasochistic passion of São Paulo´s people - bring a book, an Ipod and Valium to calm the nerves. Paulistano will certainly not need any of that, but you probably do. 5) If your in a rush do not attempt to cross outside the strip of pedestrians or with the green light to the vehicles. There will always be someone else in a hurry wich will not get to see you. 6) Addressed exclusively to the international female population: do not laugh at the pretty tan Brazilian guy you just met and discover that uses a 'sunga' (speedo). Here the birds do not like to be caged and they love to play the cuckoo clock. 7) Avoid arguing in traffic without the need, in need, if you think you may be wrong, if you know your right, if it´s your birthday or even mothers day. You can meet someone who is anxious and looking for any excuse to absent himself from such indisputable meetings. 8) During the morning avoid places known by nicknames like "Gaza Strip", "Vietnamese" ... you will discover that "Cracolandia" is not a region named in tribute to the victims of the Second World War or an establishment of a Russian community. 9) Do not ask for help from anyone who is close to the cashier when you're making a withdraw. The generous person that might want to help you to extract the money may also want to take it as a sort of souvenir for having known you. 10) Feijoada is very tasty meal... but if it is the first time you taste the delicacy of Brazilian cuisine, it is best to choose it for lunch. Digestion may be quite slow and could also be accompanied with aa few setbacks ...
